Meet the Winners:

Professional Achievement Award

Teo Ee Von

University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University

Professional Achievement finalist Teo Ee Von has had an illustrious career so far as a partner at Wong & Partners, the Kuala Lumpur office of Baker McKenzie. The University of Manchester alumna has bagged multiple awards for her involvement in high-profile corporate mergers and acquisitions, such as McDonald’s Corporation’s sale of its Malaysian subsidiary Golden Arches Restaurants Sdn Bhd, and more recently, she advised DRB-HICOM Berhad on the investment made by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in Proton Holdings Berhad. She was also nominated as Asia’s Rising Star for corporate law and recognised as the Malaysian Young Lawyer of the Year in the Asian Legal Business (ALB) Malaysia Law Awards 2017.

Entrepreneurial Award

Dr. Tay Feng Huai

Imperial College London

Entrepreneurial finalist Dr. Tay Feng Huai graduated from Imperial College London in chemical engineering. Upon his return to Malaysia, he and his wife, also a chemical engineer, realised that the local chemical industry focused on importing and distribution rather than production, resulting in significantly higher prices for consumers. Three years later, they launched their own company, Elite Advanced Materials, selling locally made, high-quality chemical products to various industries such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, and electronics. In addition, they also provide technical support as a value-added service to their clients.

Social Impact Award

Dr. Yoong Sao Chin

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

A Social Impact Award finalist with global experience, Dr. Yoong Sao Chin’s career has spanned nearly 3 decades. Having started out at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, his focus on humanitarian work of providing medical assistance, ensure access to clean water, and promoting public health among the vulnerable in natural disasters all over the world, continues with greater passion and focus. Challenging though his work may be, his genuine passion to improve healthcare delivery far outweighs any harsh challenges. To him, the value of saving lives and offering relief to the poor and needy outweighs any financial reward or remuneration.
